Local SEO services for UK tradespeople
Local SEO that makes the phone ring, not the invoice
You searched for “local seo services” because something is not working. Maybe the phone used to ring and now it does not. Maybe you set up a website two years ago and Google still has you nowhere. Maybe an agency took six months and £2,400 off you and your rank moved by nothing. Whatever it is, you are in the right place.
Rank Rescue is a £97, 48-hour, plain English local SEO service for UK tradespeople and small local service businesses. No contracts. No monthly lock-ins. No jargon. We look at your Google Business Profile, your website, and your top 5 local competitors, and we hand you a branded PDF inside two working days with a single Rank Score and the top 10 fixes in priority order. If you want, we then do the fixes for you. If you do not, you keep the PDF and action it yourself.

What local SEO services actually do
Local SEO is the thing that puts your business on Google Maps and in the “local 3-pack” you see at the top of search results when someone types “plumber near me” or “electrician Coventry”. It is completely separate from the stuff traditional SEO agencies sell. Traditional SEO is about ranking a website in Google’s main search results. Local SEO is about ranking your Google Business Profile in the map pack, where customers actually find tradespeople.
Here is the bit agencies do not tell you. For a UK tradesperson, 90 percent of your local SEO outcome comes from just three things:
- Your Google Business Profile is set up correctly and kept alive with fresh activity
- Your business name, address and phone number (NAP) are identical everywhere online
- You are collecting reviews faster than your competitors are
Everything else is either a support factor (your website, citations, schema markup) or complete waste of money (backlink packages, guest post campaigns, directory submissions sold by offshore agencies). If a local SEO service is quoting you £400 a month and most of their deliverable is “a link report”, they are not doing local SEO. They are selling you website SEO and calling it local.
The 5 local SEO mistakes we see on every audit
We have run the 12-point Rank Rescue audit on hundreds of UK trade businesses. Five problems show up again and again. If you are reading this you almost certainly have two or three of them.
Mistake 1: The wrong primary category
Your primary Google Business Profile category is the single biggest ranking lever on your entire profile. Pick the wrong one and you are invisible for searches that should be yours. “Plumber”, “Plumbing Contractor”, “Emergency Plumber” and “Plumbing Supply Store” are all different categories and Google treats them very differently. Most tradespeople we audit have a primary category that is either too generic or subtly wrong, and every search that goes to a competitor because of it is a lost job.
The fix is simple but it matters: look at the top 3 ranking businesses in your postcode for your main keyword, compare their primary category to yours, and change yours if it is different. This takes 10 minutes and routinely adds visible rank inside a week.
Mistake 2: Inconsistent name, address and phone
Google cross-references your business details against every major UK directory. Yell, FreeIndex, Checkatrade, Trustpilot, Thomson Local, Bark, Rated People, Which? Trusted Trader, MyBuilder, TrustATrader, Facebook, Companies House. If the phone number on Yell is different from the one on your Google profile, or your address on FreeIndex is a previous office you moved out of two years ago, Google flags you as untrustworthy and quietly drops you down the map.
NAP cleanup is the boring, unglamorous fix that most agencies skip because it is slow. A full UK citation audit takes 2 to 4 hours per business. It is also one of the three biggest-impact levers in local SEO. Every inconsistency is a trust signal working against you, and most businesses have 3 to 8 inconsistencies across their directory footprint.
Mistake 3: No review velocity
How many new Google reviews have you received in the last 30 days? If the answer is zero, you are losing to competitors who are getting one or two a week. Google’s algorithm weights review momentum heavily. A business that got 50 reviews in 2023 and none since 2024 ranks below a business that is getting one review a week right now, even if the total count is lower.
This is the easiest fix on the list and also the most skipped. You ask every satisfied customer. Every single one. Via text message, not email, because texts have 4x the response rate. You do not offer incentives (it is a Google policy violation). You just ask, with a direct link, inside 4 hours of finishing the job. The Rank Rescue Marketing Kit has three review request templates you can copy straight into your phone.
Mistake 4: A dead profile
When was the last time you uploaded a photo to your Google Business Profile? When did you last publish a Google Post? How many Q&A entries have you answered? For most UK tradespeople the honest answer is “never, never, and what?”
Google weights recent activity heavily because a dead profile looks like a dead business. A profile with no posts for six months, no photos for a year, and unanswered questions in the Q&A panel is telling Google “this business is probably not trading any more, stop sending it traffic”. The fix is 10 minutes a week: one post, one photo, one reply to any new review. Forever.
Mistake 5: A broken or missing website link
Your Google profile links to your website. If that website is slow, not secure (missing https), has an outdated phone number in the footer, or is showing a “coming soon” page from three years ago, it drags your entire local ranking down. Google treats your website as a second opinion on whether you are a real, trading business.
This is the most expensive mistake to fully fix because it often means a rebuild. The cheapest version is five jobs: add SSL, fix the footer phone number to match your profile, add a Google Map embed on your contact page, add schema.org LocalBusiness markup, and run the homepage through PageSpeed Insights and fix anything red. Most of these are 30-minute jobs that a local developer will do for £100 total if you point them at the list.
How the £97 Rank Rescue service works
Instead of quoting you £400 a month for 6 months, we run a one-off 12-point audit, hand you the top 10 fixes, and let you decide what to do with them. This is the entire service:
- You pay £97 via Stripe, secure checkout, flat price
- You fill in a 3-minute intake form with your business name, website, Google profile URL, city and target services
- We run the 12-point audit on your profile and a top 5 competitor scan in your city
- Within 48 hours you get a branded PDF with your Rank Score (0 to 100), the top 10 fixes in priority order, a 7-day action plan, and a competitor comparison table
- You action the fixes yourself, or upgrade to the £297 Full Optimisation and we do them all for you inside 7 working days
Rescued in 14 days or we keep working at no extra charge. That is the guarantee.
What you actually get for your £97
Every Rank Rescue Audit includes the full 12-point check. That is:
- Primary category accuracy vs top 3 competitors
- Secondary categories review
- Business name cleanliness (keyword stuffing violations flagged)
- Full NAP consistency audit across 15 UK directories
- Service area fit
- Review velocity (last 90 days)
- Review keyword audit (are your service keywords appearing naturally?)
- Photo volume and freshness check
- Google Posts history
- Q&A section audit (unanswered questions, competitor planted answers)
- Attributes and services fields completeness
- Suspension risk signal check
Plus a top 5 competitor scan: who is ranking above you in your postcode, how many reviews they have, how many photos, and what they are doing that you are not. Plus a 7-day action plan that schedules the top 10 fixes across a week, two per day, so you can actually execute without getting overwhelmed.
The deliverable is a branded PDF inside 48 hours. No endless Zoom calls, no monthly retainer, no contract. You pay once, we deliver once, and you own everything.
Who this is for
This service is built specifically for:
- UK tradespeople: plumbers, electricians, gas engineers, roofers, builders, joiners, locksmiths, decorators, landscapers, cleaners
- Small local service businesses: salons, clinics, dentists, garages, taxi firms, courier services, takeaways, pet groomers
- Sole traders and Ltd companies up to about 20 staff
- Businesses that rely on Google Maps, local search, or “near me” queries for most of their leads
This is not for you if you are running an e-commerce store, a national brand, a SaaS company, or a business that does not depend on local search. For that you need traditional SEO, which we do not sell.
Frequently asked questions about our local SEO services
How is £97 enough for a proper audit?
Because we productised it. Instead of running every audit as a bespoke consulting project, we use a fixed 12-point process and a templated branded PDF output. That cuts the delivery time from 8 hours per audit to 90 minutes, which is why we can price it at £97. You get the exact same 12 checks an agency would charge £400-800 for.
Will this work for my specific trade?
If you are a UK tradesperson and your customers find you via Google Maps or “near me” searches, yes. We have vertical experience with plumbers and electricians specifically, and the same 12-point process applies to every other local trade.
How long until I see results?
The audit lands in 48 hours. If you action the top 10 fixes within a week, most businesses see visible rank movement inside 14 days. Review-based improvements compound over 30 to 60 days. Our guarantee is 14 days to measurable improvement or we keep working at no extra charge.
Do I need to buy Google Ads for this to work?
No. Google Business Profile costs nothing to set up and Google Ads are not a local ranking factor. Ads put you on top of the paid results, they do not lift your organic map ranking. Plenty of our clients run £0 in ads and still rank 1-3 locally.
What is the difference between this and a “local SEO agency”?
A local SEO agency sells you a monthly retainer, typically £300-800 per month, with a 6 or 12 month contract. You get a monthly report and some work done each month, and you have to trust that it is worth the spend. Rank Rescue sells you a one-off £97 audit and a one-off £297 optimisation. You pay once, you get a deliverable, and you decide whether to do more. Our average customer spends £97 total. Theirs spends £3,000 to £10,000.
Can I get a refund if the audit tells me nothing I did not already know?
Yes. If we run the audit and you already knew every single fix we flagged, we refund you in full, no questions. It has happened twice. Both times we said so straight up.
Do you work with businesses outside the UK?
Not yet. UK only for now. We know the UK directory ecosystem (Yell, FreeIndex, Checkatrade, etc), the UK review norms, and the tradesperson vocabulary. A US or EU business needs a different toolkit and we do not want to fake it.
